Sarina Wiegman believes that rotation is unlikely when England faces British rivals Northern Ireland in Friday's final Group A match at Euro 2022.

Sarina Wiegman believes that rotation is unlikely when England faces British rivals Northern Ireland in Friday's final Group A match at Euro 2022. Kenny Shiels, however, wants his team to leave the tournament on a positive note.

Wiegman's team heads into Friday night's final Group A tie buoyed from an 8-0 demolition of Norway which secured top spot and a spot in the knockout stages.

Euro debutants Northern Ireland have not been able to qualify for the quarter-finals. They lost every eight of their previous meetings against the Lionesses and were outscored 42-4.

Discussions have been held about whether Wiegman will play any of her other squad members, as England's path to the knockout round is already set.

She said that she believed rhythm was important and added: "When you have nine days between the Norway game, the quarter-finals, and the Norway game, it's too much.

You need more rhythm. I don't expect a lot of rotation. I would expect rotation during the game, but not before.

"I get that players want to play. There are 23 players, and only 11 of them can play. We will do what we believe is best for our chances of winning the next game.

"Officially, some players may be disappointed. We communicate, we are clear about what we do and why. It's okay to be disappointed from time to time. If you don't want to play, the player won't be part of the squad.

"It [players being injured] is always possible, at any level of play it can happen. We want to have fun and play good games.

"If we're focused and concentrated, we can be in control of the ball and keep it moving. We will also be more composed. This is what we need to do in order to play the game.

"At this level you always look for that edge and it can happen. Although we don't expect it, the priority is to maintain rhythm, stay connected, communicate off the pitch and play a good match before moving on to the next.

Wiegman will face Northern Ireland for the third time in her brief time with England. However, she is impressed at how they have performed at Euro 2022.

She said, "We played them twice already last year. It's a great thing that they've had their first tournament. Tournaments are essential for player development. They help players get better and anticipate what the next tournament will bring.

We can see that they are trying to improve their play style and I am certain they will attempt to have a competitive game tomorrow. We want the same thing.

"I don’t know how many Northern Ireland residents will be there. It will be packed and we want to play a good match, win, keep clean sheets, and give everyone a nice evening."

Kenny Shiels spoke out about the changes in his Northern Ireland team since their friendly match at St George's Park, February 2021.

He stated, "It is important that we do not get overwhelmed. They were taken on at St George's Park in a friendly, and after the match the girls from England signed autographs.

"The girls waited outside the changing rooms to show their respect for England. It shows how high they hold England. The fact that they are so well-liked doesn't help. We have to look at things realistically and have a goal and strive to win.

"The girls admitted that they were overwhelmed by the experience. The friend helped us prepare for our trip to Ukraine.

"It was a very difficult game, and we learned so much about ourselves. We're now learning from it. The experience of losing both World Cup qualifying games is good for the future, in the way we learn from our mistakes and for how we plan for the future.

"With England's stature, we have to try and remove that from our minds and play the team instead of the occasion.

"It's an important occasion for our girls to play in front of a full house. We will do our best, and we won't be disappointed if we can. We won't leave anything behind.

"It will be the culmination of our journey to the Euros. We will want to leave on an optimistic note, and we will definitely be trying to do so."

Captain Marissa Callaghan was asked by the media if Northern Ireland would bring England "back to earth" after their 8-0 win over Norway. We have played them twice before and gave a great account.

"We were difficult to beat, and that was a huge thing for us. We stuck to the game plan and performed well. It will be difficult because their bench is as strong as their starting XI. We hope we can give it our best, that's the plan. It's time to give it all.

Shiels said, "All we want is to look at ourselves and see how we can make an impact." We are on a journey to improve the players we have and develop them.

"It is important that everyone learns and gains wisdom from being here. We want to gain some experience for the girls, and improve for next tournament.

Ellen White said, "It's just not my priority." She was asked about the possibility of becoming England's all time leading goal scorer in the wake of Monday's 8-1 win over Norway. This scoreline has already been recorded in continental history books.

After scoring an impressive double, the striker was within one goal of Wayne Rooney’s England goal total. However, she did not seem to be bothered by suggestions that she would soon surpass Rooney's 53 goals.

White doesn't care about scoring goals in England, but the contrary. White wants to be a part of the greater good and not just chase individual plaudits.

She isn't worried about breaking any records, but she wants to be the driving force behind Lionesses' collaboration in European silverware. She has a huge role to play, not only because she is among a few players in Sarina Wiegman’s squad with major tournament expertise - she is currently England Women's 10th most captained player (109), eight ahead of the distinguished Kelly Smith.

White is not interested in achieving individual glory. Her priority is to contribute to a united team effort. White is particularly humble when it comes to her own accomplishments. These are being compared to many of the current and former England greats, who were largely based on merit.

Weigman is greatly benefitting from her humble demeanour on the pitch. Her approach to the No. 9 title role is similar to Harry Kane's. She provides goals but also has an empathetic understanding of the team's needs at crucial moments. Each move is planned, just like a chess grandmaster.

At 0-0 against Norway, after winning a penalty with clever trickery to draw a foul from defender Maria Thorisdottir, she gave the ball to Georgia Stanway who converted the spot-kick.

White's presence and movement in England's second half disturbed Maren McLeod enough to lose her attention from Lauren Hemp, who stole into the backpost at three yards to make the ball go home.

The Man City forward created and sent England's third, creating Thorisdottir herself. She then ruthlessly found the bottom corner.

Because she loves playing for England, she celebrates each goal like it is her first. We will likely see her trademark 'goggles celebration' on many more occasions as she continues her international career. However, her dedication to team success cannot be underestimated.

He is a consummate professional and deserves to be included in England's halls of fame alongside Smith, Kane, Rooney, and many others.

It is clear that Beth Mead was hurt by not being selected to the Team GB squad for last summer's Olympics. Hege Riise, an Arsenal forward, made the controversial decision to leave out the talented Arsenal forward.

It may be that it was the best thing she could have done. Mead has been indispensable for both club and country over the past 12 months. Mead described her "playing angry" as a way to make her happy.

Mead has scored 16 goals since Wiegman joined England's set-up. She is currently the Euro 2022 top scorer with four goals. This includes her hat-trick against Norway.

Lauren Hemp and the wingers have been the key to England's success thus far. They will be even more so as the Lionesses progress further into the tournament. The pair can assist goals and can also score them, making them a formidable threat to opponents.

It is no coincidence that Mead has been in such a meteoric rise that Jonas Eidevall joined Arsenal around the same time Wiegman arrived at the national team. She was also the top WSL player in assists and final third passes. She was also the third most prolific goal scorer, just behind Sam Kerr or Vivianne Miesdema.

Mead's mentality and fortitude allowed her to overcome her Olympic disappointment without letting it affect her sport. It would have been simple to do this, and it is something that all players, professional and amateur alike, can take away.

The Euros feel almost like the end of her Renaissance. She is making a name for herself on the largest stage and has made the world notice her talent. This will only increase. It will be fascinating to see.
